BPL Salary Dispute: Chittagong Kings Faces Allegations Over Unpaid Salaries of Foreign Players
The ongoing salary dispute in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) continues to stir controversy, with Chittagong Kings now joining Durbar Rajshahi in the spotlight for failing to pay their players. The latest allegations involve two foreign cricketers, Pakistan’s Khaja Nafi and Afghanistan’s Zubaid Akbari, who have reportedly not received their salaries. Additionally, the franchise has been accused of not providing return flight tickets for these players.
Chittagong Kings owner Samir Kader Chowdhury has admitted to the issue, acknowledging that the salaries of the foreign players have yet to be paid. However, he assured that the payments would be made soon.
In an interview with a television channel, Chowdhury said, "Nafi's situation is fine. His contract states that he will receive his cash after the tournament. I don't know how you would imagine how we treat them. They are given a lot of respect. I was dissatisfied with some comments, but that’s all."
This is not the first time Chittagong Kings has been involved in a salary dispute. A few weeks ago, there was media coverage about Binura Fernando not being paid, followed by the Parvez Imon controversy, which received significant public attention. Samir Kader Chowdhury faced heavy criticism over the Parvez Imon issue. Now, further allegations regarding the non-payment of salaries to two more foreign players have emerged, continuing to fuel the controversy surrounding the tournament’s financial management.
