Australia Dominate Day 1 of First Test Against Sri Lanka
Australia is well on its way to posting a formidable total at the end of day one in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium. The visitors finished the day at 330 for 2, thanks to brilliant centuries from openers Usman Khawaja and captain Steve Smith.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Australia got off to a strong start, with Khawaja and Travis Head putting up a solid opening partnership. The stand was broken at 92 runs when Prabath Jayasuriya dismissed Head for 57, which included 10 fours and 1 six.
Khawaja then continued to lead the charge with Marnus Labuschagne, adding 43 runs to the total before Labuschagne was dismissed for 20 by Jeffrey Vandersay. Khawaja remained unshaken and went on to form a resilient partnership with Smith to end the day.
Usman Khawaja, who brought up his century, is unbeaten on 147 at the close of play. His knock included 10 fours and 1 six. Steve Smith, leading the team, also reached three figures and remains not out on 104, with 10 fours and 1 six in his innings.
For Sri Lanka, Prabath Jayasuriya and Jeffrey Vandersay were the wicket-takers, with one scalp each.
