NSC Forms Investigation Committee to Look into BPL Payment Issues
In response to the ongoing payment disputes surrounding the 2025 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the National Sports Council (NSC), the country's governing body for sports, has formed an investigative committee. The committee is tasked with investigating the issue of unpaid player salaries and will submit its report to the Ministry of Youth and Sports within 7 working days.
This year's BPL has seen controversy surrounding the non-payment of players, overshadowing the on-field cricket action. While Durbar Rajshahi has been in the spotlight for payment issues, Chattogram Kings has also been raising concerns over unpaid salaries, failing to meet the payment deadlines set by the league. This isn't the first time such issues have arisen; although the problem has escalated in the current season, similar incidents have occurred in almost every BPL season.
In a statement released by the NSC, it was mentioned: "The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has already established itself as a professional T20 league. The 2025 edition of the BPL is aligned with the vision of building a new Bangladesh and serves as a stepping stone toward achieving national goals. It is noteworthy that the Honorable Chief Advisor has provided several innovative ideas regarding this matter. Furthermore, the Honorable Advisor of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has allocated significant government funds for the renovation and repair of three sports infrastructures to ensure the success of BPL 2025."
The statement also addressed the media reports regarding player payments, which have drawn the NSC's attention. "Failure to pay players in accordance with their contracts and on time is harmful to the reputation of the BCB, the BPL, and the country as a whole," the statement added.
To investigate the issue of outstanding payments to players in BPL 2025, the NSC has formed a "Satyanusandhan Committee" (Investigation Committee). The three-member committee will be led by the Director of Sports at the NSC, with the personal secretary to the Chairman of the NSC and the Assistant Director of Sports acting as members.
This committee will thoroughly review the issue and provide recommendations to ensure such payment-related issues are addressed effectively in the future.
