Fortune Barishal Secures 5th BPL Final Spot with Dominant Performance Over Chittagong Kings
Fortune Barishal has stormed into their 5th BPL final after a commanding 9-wicket victory over Chittagong Kings in the first qualifier. Led by superb bowling from Kyle Mayers and a five-wicket haul from Mohammad Ali, Barishal made short work of the task, setting up a perfect platform for their chase. With this win, they have sealed their spot in the 11th BPL final and are just one step away from clinching the title.
Chittagong Kings, despite a strong 79-run knock from Shamim Hossain Patowary, struggled to set a challenging target, finishing their innings at 149 runs for 9 wickets. Apart from Shamim, only opener Parvez Hossain Emon managed to reach double figures, with the rest of the batsmen falling to Barishal’s clinical bowling attack. Shamim’s impressive batting was the highlight of the innings, as he single-handedly contributed more than half of his team’s total runs. His remarkable 360-degree batting display was the only silver lining in an otherwise dismal performance.
Chittagong’s total of 149 runs was always going to be a modest target on a pitch that had proven favorable for batting.
Chasing 150 for victory, Barishal got off to a solid start with an opening partnership that added 55 runs before Tamim Iqbal was dismissed for a slow 29 off 26 balls. Despite his slow start, the chase was never in danger. David Malan came in at No. 3, and together with Tawhid Hridoy, they took control of the game. Hridoy played an explosive innings, reaching 50 runs off 45 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six, marking his 8th fifty in BPL. His performance ensured that Barishal remained on course to complete the chase comfortably.
With Hridoy’s steady hand and Malan’s support, Barishal sailed to victory with 9 wickets and 16 balls to spare, booking their spot in the final.
Fortune Barishal's Impressive Run
This victory marks Barishal’s 5th appearance in a BPL final, and it comes after an impressive season where they topped the points table with 9 wins out of 12 matches. In the final, they will look to claim their first title, having come close on several occasions before.
On the other hand, Chittagong Kings will get another chance to qualify for the final, as they will face the winner of the second qualifier in the final showdown.
Fortune Barishal’s all-round performance – including outstanding bowling, solid batting from local stars, and an efficient chase – has them in a strong position as they target the BPL crown.
