Khulna Tigers advanced one step closer to the final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after defeating Rangpur Riders by 9 wickets in a dominant performance. The star of the match was Nasum Ahmed, who claimed 3 wickets for just 16 runs, leading his team to a commanding victory. In the post-match press conference, Nasum revealed that their primary focus was always on winning the match to advance.

To qualify for the playoffs, Khulna had to win their last two group-stage matches. With this win, they have now moved one step closer to securing a playoff spot. Nasum explained the importance of the victory and how the team approached the game:

“We were already playing knockout cricket two matches ago. Every team aims for the semifinals and the final. Our first target was to be in the top four, and today we’ve won the first match, Alhamdulillah. We’ll try to win the next match as well, Inshallah. This belief is what has kept us going for the past three months,” said Nasum.

Before the match against Khulna, Rangpur Riders were bolstered by the addition of international stars Andre Russell, James Vince, and Tim David. However, Khulna Tigers were unaware of these additions beforehand, which meant they couldn’t plan specifically for them. Nasum commented on the situation, saying:

“No, we didn’t know beforehand that these three foreign players would play. We had heard they might, but we couldn’t make specific plans for them. As I mentioned earlier, foreign players generally perform well on these pitches.”

On a day when the foreign players struggled, it was the local players who delivered for Khulna. Nasum expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the local players, saying:

“Absolutely, all of our local players, Alhamdulillah, performed well. Especially the batters, who did a great job. The bench players are also very capable. We’re not always able to field everyone due to team combinations, but our team bonding is very strong. Whether we play or not, we are united.”

With the win, Khulna Tigers continue their quest for the title as they aim to keep their momentum going in the coming matches.
