Nepal Fall Four Runs Short Against England in Mumbai Thriller
Nepal suffered a heartbreaking four-run defeat against England in a thrilling ICC Men’s T20 World Cup encounter that went down to the final over.
Opting to bat first, England posted 184 for 7. In reply, Nepal launched a confident chase and pushed the contest to the last over, but fell short at the crucial moment.
England had a challenging start. The early dismissal of Phil Salt in the second over sparked excitement among the Nepal supporters in the packed stadium. Soon after, Jos Buttler (26) and Tom Banton were dismissed, leaving England at 57 for 3. Jacob Bethell (55) and captain Harry Brook (53) then steadied the innings with a 71-run partnership for the fourth wicket, rescuing England from trouble. A late flourish by Will Jacks (39 not out) took England to a competitive total of 184 for 7.
Nepal began their chase strongly, with Kushal Bhurtel (29) providing an aggressive start. Despite losing two early wickets, captain Rohit Paudel (39) and Dipendra Singh Airee (44) kept Nepal in the hunt with an impressive 82-run stand. Although three quick wickets put England back in control, Lokesh Bam (35 not out) reignited Nepal’s hopes by smashing three sixes to take the match into the final over.
Needing 10 runs off the last over, Nepal could manage only six as Sam Curran held his nerve with a brilliant final over, sealing a narrow four-run victory for England.
