Sri Lanka Pull Off Incredible Win After C Down Englands 429

The third ODI of the tri-series in Pakistan produced a thrilling contest as Sri Lanka pulled off an extraordinary victory. Powered by a magnificent double century from captain Harry Brook, England posted a massive total of 429 runs. However, Sri Lanka made a mockery of the daunting target, chasing down 430 with two wickets and just one ball to spare to seal a historic win. With both teams combining for 859 runs, the match turned into one of the most spectacular high-scoring thrillers in ODI cricket history.

After being put into bat, England made a relatively slow start before Harry Brook took control of the innings through a 164-run partnership with Joe Root. Although Root departed after scoring 54, Brook held firm at one end and launched a fierce assault on the Sri Lankan bowlers. He reached his century in just 75 balls before shifting into an even more aggressive gear. After crossing the 150-run mark off 97 balls, Brook completed his remarkable double century in just 114 deliveries, smashing 21 fours and 10 sixes.

Towards the end of the innings, Will Jacks provided a blistering contribution with 52 runs off just 25 balls. England plundered 156 runs in the final 10 overs to finish with a formidable total of 429 for four in their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing a mountainous target of 430, Sri Lanka suffered an early setback, losing two wickets for just 60 runs. However, Avishka Fernando and Pavan Rathnayake turned the game around with a magnificent partnership. The duo added 150 runs off 129 balls to bring Sri Lanka back into contention. Fernando narrowly missed out on a century, scoring 97 off 83 deliveries with 11 fours and two sixes. Rathnayake, meanwhile, went on to reach his century off 87 balls. Before departing, he top-scored for Sri Lanka with a brilliant 130 off 106 deliveries, including 15 fours and three sixes.

After Rathnayake’s dismissal, Dasun Shanaka unleashed a devastating assault on the English bowlers. The former Sri Lankan captain brought up his half-century in just 30 balls, leaving the opposition attack struggling to contain him. He eventually scored a breathtaking 97 off only 50 deliveries, smashing six fours and eight sixes.

As the match approached its climax, Janith Liyanage further eased the pressure with a whirlwind innings of 50 off just 21 balls. Although Sri Lanka lost wickets in quick succession towards the end, creating tension in the closing stages, they held their nerve to secure the remarkable victory. The winning runs came off the fifth ball of the final over, with Sri Lanka reaching 430 for eight in 49.5 overs to complete an unforgettable chase.

Ultimately, Sri Lanka’s batting depth and positive approach throughout the innings proved decisive in turning what seemed an almost impossible challenge into a historic triumph.
