Zaheer Khan Appointed CSKs New Head Coach, Replacing Stephen Fleming

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are undergoing major changes ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega season. The five-time IPL champions have appointed former India legendary fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their new head coach, bringing an end to their long 18-year association with Stephen Fleming.

Chennai have failed to qualify for the IPL playoffs for three consecutive seasons, including the 2026 campaign. Following the disappointing run, the franchise decided to make significant changes to its support staff. Fleming recently left CSK after taking charge as the head coach of the England men’s Test team.

After taking up his new role, Zaheer Khan said, “It is a great honour for me to be part of one of the most successful franchises in IPL history. I am looking forward to starting a new chapter in front of the ‘Superfans’ at Chepauk.”

During his playing career, Zaheer represented Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals in the IPL. He previously served as Mumbai Indians’ Director of Cricket Operations and, more recently, worked as a mentor for Lucknow Super Giants. However, this will be the 47-year-old former pacer’s first experience as the head coach of an IPL franchise.
