The Bangladesh U-19 team is currently touring England for a five-match ODI series. In the opening match on Friday at Loughborough’s Haslegrave Ground, the Young Tigers secured a commanding 87-run victory over the hosts, thanks to a brilliant century from Rizan Hossain and a destructive bowling spell by Samium Basir.

Batting first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 292 in 49.2 overs. Their start was shaky, losing three wickets for just 67 runs. However, Rizan Hossain and Kalam Siddique steadied the innings with a superb 148-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Rizan struck a fine century, scoring 101 off 101 balls with 9 fours and a six. At the other end, Kalam Siddique contributed an impressive 67 runs, while opener Jawad Abrar added 40 to provide early momentum.

Chasing 293, England’s batting lineup crumbled against Samium’s spin, folding for 205 in 33.2 overs.

The lone resistance came from Isaac Mohammad, who blasted 75 off 53 balls, including 7 sixes. Just when it seemed his power-hitting might bring England back into the contest, Rizan himself dismissed him with a brilliant delivery, ending the counterattack.

From there, the collapse was inevitable. Samium Basir ran riot, picking up 4 wickets for just 9 runs in 4.2 overs, playing a decisive role in Bangladesh’s victory.

With this win, Bangladesh U-19s take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

The second ODI will be played on 7 September.
