Shoriful Joins Shakib’s Team in Canada

In the Global T20 League in Canada, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan has been signed by a new team this year. Joining Shakib’s team is pace bowler Shoriful Islam. While Shakib played for the Montreal Tigers in the previous season, he will be representing Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the new edition.

After the World Cup, Shakib Al Hasan and Shoriful Islam will don the same team jersey in the fourth season of Canada's Global T20 League. In the last season, Shakib wore the Montreal Tigers jersey. This time, he has moved to a new team and will be accompanied by his national teammate Shoriful Islam.

Before the players' draft, the Bangla Tigers Mississauga franchise signed Shakib directly. Following this, they added Pakistan's star batter Iftikhar Ahmed. Afghan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Namibia’s David Wiese are also among Shakib’s teammates.

Shoriful has previously played in foreign leagues. In the 2023 season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), he played for the star-studded team Colombo Strikers. However, the left-arm pacer returned home after playing just one match. The LPL was Shoriful’s first franchise league experience.

Shoriful faced injury problems before the T20 World Cup. Even though he became fit for matches, he did not get the opportunity to play in the main stage of the World Cup due to team combinations.

This year's Global T20 season will run from July 25 to August 11. All matches of the tournament will be held at the Brampton grounds.
