Bangladesh team returns, Taskin speaks on tiger's campaign

The Bangladesh cricket team arrived in Dhaka this morning at the end of their T20 World Cup campaign. The disappointment was evident on the faces of the players as they couldn't finish on a high note. Taskin Ahmed, the vice-captain of the team for the World Cup, spoke to the media at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Reflecting on Bangladesh's performance in the World Cup, he emphasized their attempts to secure a win against Afghanistan in their final Super Eight match within 12 overs. However, despite their efforts, they fell short.

"Truth be told, good times never last. Whether good or bad, there's always room for improvement. We were all a bit disappointed after the last match. We tried to win initially, within 12 overs. Later, realizing that wasn't possible, we played naturally, but still couldn't succeed. Yes, there are positive aspects. Throughout the tournament, our bowling department performed quite well. We reached the Super Eight stage. This time in the T20 World Cup, we won three matches, which is promising. But the expectations were higher."

Reflecting on Bangladesh's optimism from the T20 World Cup, Taskin pointed out that their bowling was a significant asset. Despite challenges with batting form throughout the tournament, he remained hopeful for improvement.

"Our bowling department has shown significant improvement over the past few years. We've maintained consistency in that aspect. There's room for further improvement. As for batting, during the first round of the World Cup against the United States, our batsmen faced very few wickets. If you look at the statistics, even the top batsmen of other countries struggled. There was some advantage for bowlers. After playing against West Indies, we showed some improvement in batting on good wickets. But that's actually... I haven't seen such a long bad patch in my cricket career for Bangladesh in batting. Hopefully, this will change very soon."

Encouraging fans to keep faith in the team, Taskin expressed optimism about gradual progress in T20 cricket.

"We've been improving gradually in T20 cricket. Statistics weren't favorable initially compared to previous times. But there's been improvement. It's not just about pessimism; we are also focusing on positives. Keep your faith in us. We're giving our best efforts to turn negatives into positives. If you're feeling disappointed, it's natural. We'll give you a good victory as a gift. Keep faith in us. We're striving with our utmost."
