Sri Lanka's Head Coach Chris Silverwood Resigns
The Sri Lanka cricket team could not advance to the Super 8 stage of this year's ICC T20 World Cup. They were eliminated in the group stage after falling behind South Africa and Bangladesh in Group D. Following this disappointing performance in the World Cup, their head coach, Chris Silverwood, has resigned.
Today (June 27), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced in a press release that Silverwood resigned citing personal reasons.
Explaining his resignation, Silverwood stated, "Being an international coach means being away from loved ones for extended periods. After a long discussion with my family, I regretfully say it's time for me to go home and spend quality time with them."
"I want to thank the players, coaches, backroom staff, and SLC management for their support during my time in Sri Lanka. None of the successes would have been possible without their help."
"Being part of Sri Lanka Cricket has been a source of pride for me. I will carry many good memories with me."
The most notable success during Chris Silverwood's tenure as the head coach of the Sri Lanka team was undoubtedly winning the 2022 T20 Asia Cup. They also reached the final of the 2023 50-over Asia Cup. The team won several bilateral series both at home and away, including a home series against Australia and an away Test series against Bangladesh.
