Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has launched a sharp critique of batter Babar Azam. The debate over Babar’s demotion to the number four position has intensified, with Akhtar suggesting that it might be better for him to step away from this format altogether.

Speaking on the show Game On Hai, Akhtar said, “First, Babar needs to decide whether this format is for him. Secondly, if you want Babar to play, he should be in the first six overs. It’s very simple, not rocket science.” He added that for Babar to be effective, he should either open the innings or give opportunities to other batters.

Babar’s performances in the World Cup have also been disappointing. He managed only 15 runs against the Netherlands, scored 46 against the USA, but failed against India, getting out for a single-digit score.

Head coach Mike Hesson has defended moving Babar to number four, citing the need for a pure batter in the middle overs. However, former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez believes that if Babar is to play, he must remain in the top three. He said, “Babar cannot adjust at number four. If he is to play, he should definitely bat among the top three.”
