Bangladesh Dominate Day One in Galle as Shanto, Mushfiqur Hit Centuries
It was a day of complete dominance for Bangladesh on Day One of the Galle Test, capped off by stunning centuries from Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim. After a disastrous start that saw the top three dismissed cheaply, the visitors bounced back in style through a record-setting partnership.
Skipper Shanto notched up his sixth Test century, while veteran Mushfiqur brought up his 12th Test ton, both showcasing grit and composure on a spin-friendly surface.
Bangladesh were reeling at 45/3 early in the day. But by lunch, they recovered to 90/3. The second session saw them consolidate with 92 runs for no loss, followed by another wicketless final session — where the pair of Shanto and Mushfiqur brought up their well-deserved hundreds.
At stumps, Bangladesh stood tall at 3 for 182, with a massive 200-run unbeaten stand for the fourth wicket. Their partnership not only rescued the innings but also put the team in a commanding position heading into Day Two.
The maturity and resilience shown by both batters turned what could’ve been a nightmare into a memorable day for Bangladesh cricket.
