Team India has suffered a significant setback ahead of the decisive fifth Test of the ongoing five-match series against England. First-choice wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out after sustaining a right foot injury while fielding during the fourth Test. In his place, Narayan Jagadeesan has been drafted into the squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the development in an official statement:
"Rishabh Pant sustained a fracture on his right foot during the fourth Test against England in Manchester. The medical team is closely monitoring his recovery. We wish him a speedy return."

Pant's absence not only weakens India’s batting depth but also leaves a void of experience behind the stumps. While young wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel was already part of the squad, Jagadeesan now joins as his backup. The Tamil Nadu cricketer’s consistent performances in domestic cricket made his selection a matter of time.

The fifth and final Test will begin on July 31, 2025, at the Kennington Oval in London. With the series tied 2-2, the match is effectively a winner-takes-all finale — a high-stakes decider for strategic supremacy between the two teams.

Pant’s injury is undoubtedly a blow, but it also opens the door for fresh talent. All eyes will now be on how India balances the wicketkeeping duties and lower-order stability in his absence.
