Australia Clinch Series with Thrilling Win Over West Indies in 4th T20
Australia Clinch Series with Thrilling Win Over West Indies in 4th T20
Australia sealed the five-match T20 series 3-1 with a tense 3-wicket win over West Indies in the fourth match, thanks to a brilliant all-round team performance. The victory was shaped by a fiery knock from Cameron Green and an explosive all-round display from Glenn Maxwell, crushing West Indies’ hopes of a comeback.
West Indies Set an Unusual Benchmark
Despite no batter crossing the 31-run mark, West Indies posted a formidable 205-run total, a rare feat in T20 history. Sherfane Rutherford top-scored with 31, while Rovman Powell, Shimron Hetmyer, and Rutherford played brisk cameos. A late surge from Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd powered the side past the 200-run barrier.
Australian Bowlers Deliver Under Pressure
Australia’s bowlers kept things tight despite the high score. Aaron Hardie and Xavier Bartlett provided crucial breakthroughs in the Powerplay. Nathan Ellis was miserly once again, conceding just 21 runs in 4 overs. Adam Zampa claimed 3 wickets, while Hardie and Bartlett picked up 2 each.
Maxwell and Green Lead Australia’s Chase
Chasing a mammoth target, Australia lost skipper Mitchell Marsh early. But Josh Inglis (51 off 30) and Glenn Maxwell (47 off 18) unleashed a brutal assault, taking the score to 129 in just 10 overs. Maxwell’s innings included six towering sixes.
However, his dismissal triggered a sudden collapse. Debutant Zediah Blades claimed three quick wickets, injecting life back into the contest.
Amidst the pressure, Cameron Green stood firm. His calm and calculated 55 off 35 balls* guided Australia home. A dropped catch by Rutherford late in the match proved costly for the Windies.
Maxwell’s Fielding Heroics
Maxwell was a standout in the field as well. His stunning boundary-line catch to dismiss Shepherd—where he flicked the ball mid-air to Green while avoiding the ropes—was arguably the moment of the match and a highlight in T20 history.
Another Missed Opportunity for West Indies
For West Indies, it was yet another chapter of frustration. Despite creating chances, lapses in fielding and dropped catches cost them dearly—ultimately leading to a fourth defeat in the series.
The fifth and final T20 will be played in the coming days. While West Indies will look to salvage pride, Australia will aim for a dominant 4-1 series win.
