Zawad Abrar Misses Century Again as Bangladesh U-19 Take on Zimbabwe in Tri-Series Clash

Bangladesh Under-19 team kicked off their tri-nation series campaign with a thrilling one-wicket win over South Africa. Today, they faced hosts Zimbabwe in their second match at the Harare Sports Club, where opener Zawad Abrar once again displayed his fine form — but narrowly missed out on a century.

Zawad, who has been in red-hot form, struck a brilliant 82 off 63 balls, hitting 12 fours and one six. Despite being well on course for his maiden hundred, he was adjudged leg-before by the umpire off Zimbabwean spinner Brandon Senzere — a decision that sparked some frustration, as the batter looked in complete control.

This was Zawad’s fourth fifty in his last five innings, continuing the purple patch he started during the recent ODI series in South Africa, where he scored three consecutive half-centuries. He had also contributed a quickfire 20 off 9 balls in Bangladesh’s opening tri-series match against South Africa.

Put in to bat after losing the toss, Bangladesh found early momentum through Jawad’s aggressive strokeplay. He dominated the Zimbabwean bowlers from the outset, repeatedly finding the boundary and putting the pressure back on the hosts.

After his dismissal at 82, Bangladesh were 165 for 2 at the end of 25 overs. Captain Azizul Hakim Tamim was at the crease alongside Rizan Hossain, looking to build on the solid foundation laid by the in-form opener.

Zawad Abrar’s consistent performances continue to be a major boost for the junior Tigers, though the elusive century remains just out of reach — for now.
