'Max60 Caribbean' T10 League in Turmoil Amid Player Strike Over Unpaid Wages
The ‘Max60 Caribbean’ T10 tournament has plunged into major uncertainty after five matches were canceled due to a player strike over unpaid wages. Despite featuring global stars like David Warner, Shakib Al Hasan, Alex Hales, and Carlos Brathwaite, the off-field issues have overshadowed the event’s second edition.
According to an ESPNcricinfo report, all five matches scheduled for Tuesday were called off after several players refused to take the field, citing non-payment of salaries that were contractually due 30 days before the tournament’s start.
Initially, organizers announced on Instagram that all matches were canceled due to "off-field issues" and declared a final between Caribbean Tigers and Vegas Vikings—the first and third-placed teams on the points table—scheduled for Thursday at 2 PM local time. However, the post was later deleted.
By Wednesday morning, organizers issued a revised statement, saying Vegas Vikings would face Grand Cayman Falcons (fifth in the standings) in a "runner-up playoff", followed by a trophy presentation.
World Cricketers’ Association Slams Organizers
The World Cricketers' Association (WCA) backed the players, calling their contracts "less valuable than a piece of paper."
WCA CEO Tom Moffat stated,
"Players have upheld their responsibilities under contract. However, those failing to pay them have shown blatant disregard. This isn't an isolated incident. We've seen contract breaches repeatedly in so-called sanctioned leagues. It's time for effective protections for players."
Organizers Under Fire
The embattled tournament is organized by Dubai-based BMP Sports, which calls itself the “global owner and backer of top cricket league franchises.” BMP owns the Braves franchise, which has participated in various T10 leagues across Abu Dhabi, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka.
Despite mounting criticism and operational chaos, neither BMP Sports nor Max60 officials have made any formal comment regarding the cancellations, financial issues, or the tournament's future.
