Bangladesh Ends Day 2 on Backfoot in Kingston Test; Nahid Rana Sparkles in Final Session
Bangladesh ended Day 2 on the backfoot in the second Test against West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, despite a spirited effort in the final session from pacer Nahid Rana. Chasing 164 in their first innings, the hosts closed the day at 1 for 70 after 37 overs, trailing Bangladesh by 94 runs.
Bangladesh started the day at 2 for 69, but their batting collapsed in the middle sessions. They lost 4 wickets in each session and were bowled out for just 164 runs in 71.5 overs. Jaden Seales was the star for the West Indies, wreaking havoc in the latter stages of the innings with incredible figures of 4 for 5 from 15.5 overs. Seales also bowled 10 maiden overs, making it a near-impossible task for the Bangladesh batters.
The morning session saw Bangladesh lose 3 quick wickets, as Shamarh Brooks and Seales took control. The highest scorer for Bangladesh in their first innings was opener Shadman Islam, who made 64 runs, while captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz contributed 36 runs. After the collapse, West Indies quickly got on top in their reply.
West Indies started their chase positively, but Bangladesh managed to strike in the 13th over. Nahid Rana, with a delivery clocking 147.1 km/h, had Mikhael Lewis caught behind by Litton Das for 12 runs. The opening partnership was broken at 25 runs, giving Bangladesh some hope. However, the pair of Craig Brathwaite and Kelsey Carti then steadied the ship for the hosts.
The rest of the session passed without any further breakthroughs for Bangladesh. Brathwaite, the West Indies captain, remained solid at 33 not out from 115 balls, while Carti was 19 not out from 60 balls. The duo will resume batting with a 45-run second-wicket partnership when play resumes on Day 3.
With 94 runs needed to match Bangladesh's first innings total and 9 wickets in hand, the West Indies will be looking to push for a lead on the third day, while Bangladesh will aim to bounce back with more breakthroughs.
