The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) has officially confirmed that Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has been awarded the 'Honorary Cricket Membership.' Having played a total of 200 Test matches, 463 One-Day Internationals, and 1 T20I for India, Sachin now receives this prestigious recognition from Australia's oldest and most historic sports club.
Founded in 1838, the Melbourne Cricket Club is the oldest sports club in Australia. Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary Indian cricketer, has now become an honorary member of this prestigious club. The MCC shared a photo of Tendulkar on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating, "An icon has been honored."
MCC's official announcement read: "It is with great pleasure that we announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted honorary membership in recognition of his exceptional contributions to cricket."
In 2012, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard had announced that Tendulkar would be awarded the 'Order of Australia' for his outstanding contributions to the sport. Now, Tendulkar has received the honorary membership of the Melbourne Cricket Club.
The cricketing legend holds the record for the most runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). In five Tests played at the MCG, he scored a total of 449 runs at an average of 44.90, including one century and three half-centuries.
