In Melbourne, Steve Smith scored an impressive 140 runs as Australia put up a total of 474 in their first innings against India. This century marks Smith's 34th in his career, placing him firmly in the top 10 of the all-time list for most Test centuries. With just one more century, Smith will surpass the likes of Brian Lara, Mahela Jayawardene, Sunil Gavaskar, and Younis Khan.

In the first innings of the Boxing Day Test against India, Steve Smith achieved a record century, playing a flawless innings of 140 runs off 197 balls. His innings included 13 fours and 3 sixes. This marks Smith's second consecutive Test century against India, and with 11 centuries, he now holds the record for the most centuries against India. This also happens to be Smith’s fifth century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

This century is Smith's 34th in Test cricket. Across 113 Test matches and 201 innings, Smith has accumulated 34 centuries. The only Australian player with more Test centuries than Smith is former captain Ricky Ponting, who has 41 centuries, just seven more than Smith.

In the all-time list of most Test centuries, Smith shares the 7th spot. Among current players, only Joe Root (36 centuries) is ahead of him.
