The winners of the upcoming Australian domestic One Day Cup competition will be awarded the newly introduced Dean Jones Trophy. The trophy has been named in honor of the legendary cricketer, Dean Jones, as a tribute to his remarkable contributions to Australian cricket. Along with the naming of the trophy, the best player of the final will be presented with the Michael Bevan Medal, recognizing Michael Bevan's incredible achievements and contributions in limited-overs cricket.
The Dean Jones Trophy and the Michael Bevan Medal will be presented for the first time during the final of this season's competition on March 1.
Dean Jones passed away in September 2020 at the age of 59. Prior to his passing, Jones had played 55 domestic One Day International (ODI) matches for Victoria, scoring a total of 2,122 runs at an average of 50.52. In 2019, he was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
Dean Jones's wife, Jane, and daughters, Augusta and Phoebe, unveiled the trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Phoebe, Dean's daughter, shared that her father would have been immensely proud to receive such an honor for a competition he truly loved.
