Jaker Ali Delighted to Make Up for Two Run Outs, Wins Player of the Match
In the first Test, he scored 53 and 31, in the second Test, he managed 1 and 91. In the ODI series, he scored 48, 3, and 62*, and in the T20 series, he posted 27, 21, and 72*. Jaker Ali Anik has had a dream tour of the West Indies. He ended it in style, playing a match-winning, unbeaten 72 runs off 41 balls to help his team win by 80 runs.
However, Jaker Ali Anik had initially walked back to the dressing room after scoring just 17 runs. Furious with himself, he stormed into the dressing room. It was then that the umpire intervened and brought him back onto the field.
It was the 15th over of Bangladesh’s innings, and on the third ball of the over, Jaker Ali attempted a second run off Rostan Chase’s delivery. But his partner, Shamim, did not respond. Jaker managed to make it to the other end, but both batsmen ended up at the same end. Nicholas Pooran's throw allowed Chase to run out Jaker. Jaker thought he was out and headed back to the dressing room. However, the third umpire reviewed the situation and confirmed that Shamim had not reached the crease before Jaker, which led to Jaker being called back to the field, and Shamim being dismissed instead.
A ball later, Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, who hadn’t faced a ball, was run out attempting a single.
After the match, Jaker Ali Anik discussed the two run outs during the presentation. He attributed his consistent performance throughout the tour to his mindset.
Jaker Ali said, "The entire series has been amazing for me. Today, the wicket was much better compared to the previous two matches. I wanted to take my time and knew that if I could carry the innings deep, I would be able to score. The run-out situation was really frustrating, but the third umpire gave me the chance to bat again. Luckily, I was able to make runs after that, and I’m happy to have made up for the two run outs."
"Performing well throughout the tour is completely about mindset. I know the Caribbean players will give their best no matter the format. I’ve played in the World Cup, and although I didn’t perform well there, everything has been going well for me in this format."
