Bangladesh Secures T20 Series Victory Against West Indies with a Clean Sweep
Bangladesh clinched the T20 series against the West Indies by winning the first two matches. Today, in the third and final match, Liton Das’ team secured an exciting 80-run victory, completing a series sweep. With this hat-trick of wins, the hosts suffered a “Banglawash.” The players effectively seized the opportunity to avenge their ODI series whitewash.
Liton Das’ side achieved the rare feat of sweeping the two-time world champion West Indies on their home soil. Bangladesh became the fourth team after India, Pakistan, and England to whitewash the West Indies in a T20 series.
Batting first in Saint Vincent with hopes of a hat-trick of wins, Bangladesh posted a formidable total of 189 runs. After opener Parvez Hossain Emon’s 39, Zakir Ali smashed an unbeaten 72 off 41 balls, including six sixes and three fours.
In the final 10 overs, Bangladesh scored 113 runs while losing four wickets, with Zakir Ali contributing the lion’s share. His aggressive innings powered Bangladesh to a record total.
Defending a target of 190, Bangladesh made an excellent start with the ball. In the first two overs, Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz each claimed a wicket. Taskin dismissed Brandon King with his second delivery, while Sheikh Mehidy took the wicket of Justin Greaves in the following over. Greaves, attempting a six over long-on, was caught by substitute fielder Afif Hossain for 6 runs.
The West Indies lost another wicket during the powerplay. Nicholas Pooran, who scored 15 off 10 balls, was bowled by Mehidy, doubling his wicket tally. Roston Chase departed without scoring after being dismissed by Hasan Mahmud. A misfortune struck the Windies when opener Johnson Charles was run out, leaving the hosts at 46 for 5.
Chasing 190, the West Indies needed to achieve the highest-ever T20 run chase on this ground to win. However, they were bowled out for just 109 runs in 16.4 overs. Bangladesh secured the final T20 match by 80 runs, completing a dominant series sweep.
