Bangladesh U-19 Women's Team Outclassed by India
Bangladesh U-19 Women’s team suffered an 8-wicket defeat against India in the Super Four stage of the Women’s U-19 Asia Cup. Chasing a modest target of 80, India reached their goal comfortably, losing just 2 wickets.
The match, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, saw Bangladesh opt to bat first after losing the toss. Openers Fahmida Chhooa and Eva provided a steady start, putting together a partnership of 27 runs. However, Eva was dismissed for 14, and soon after, Chhooa followed her back to the pavilion for 10, with only 1 additional run added to the scoreboard.
What followed was a batting collapse, as the Bangladeshi batting lineup crumbled under pressure from the Indian bowlers. By the time they reached 38 runs, they had already lost 5 wickets. The situation worsened when they lost two more wickets at the score of 46.
Farzana Yasmin’s 8 runs off 21 balls and Nishita Akter’s 10 runs off 17 balls helped Bangladesh avoid being bowled out. A late cameo from Habiba Pinky, who scored 11 off 4 balls, pushed Bangladesh to 80 runs for 8 wickets at the end of their innings.
For India, Ayushi Shukla took 3 wickets, while Sonam Yadav claimed 2.
Chasing a target of 81, India began aggressively. Despite losing 2 wickets, they comfortably secured the victory in just 12.1 overs. Trisha Gongadi played a stellar knock of 58 runs off 45 balls, while Niki Prasad contributed an unbeaten 22 off 15 balls.
For Bangladesh, Anisa Akter Soba picked up both wickets.
India’s dominant performance highlights their strength, while Bangladesh will need to regroup and address their batting struggles in upcoming matches.
