Tigresses Dominate to Whitewash Ireland
After clinching the series with victories in the first two ODIs, the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team sealed a commanding whitewash over Ireland in the third and final match. The Tigresses displayed their dominance, securing a 7-wicket win against the Irish Women in Mirpur on Monday.
Winning the toss, Ireland opted to bat first. However, they lost an opener early in their innings. Gaby Lewis and Amy Hunter then built a 48-run partnership before Amy departed for 23. Ireland soon found themselves struggling at 107 for 4.
Gaby Lewis top-scored with 52 off 79 balls, but after her dismissal, no other batter could make a significant contribution. Alana Dalzell scored 19, while Arlene Kelly added 18. With slow scoring, Ireland managed 185 runs in their allotted 50 overs, losing all wickets.
For Bangladesh, Fahima Khatun starred with the ball, picking up 3 wickets. Sultana Khatun and Nahida Akter supported well, taking 2 wickets each.
Chasing a modest target of 186, Bangladesh had an early hiccup when Murshida Khatun fell for 8 with the team score at just 9. However, a stellar 142-run partnership between Fargana Hoque and Sharmin Akhter Supta steadied the innings.
Sharmin was dismissed for a superb 72 off 88 balls, including 11 boundaries. Fargana followed soon after, scoring 61 off 99 balls. Captain Nigar Sultana (18*) and Sobhana Mostary (7*) then completed the chase, guiding the team to victory in just 37.3 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
Sharmin Akhter Supta was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.
Match Summary:
Ireland: 185 all out in 50 overs (Gaby Lewis 52; Fahima Khatun 3/...)
Bangladesh: 186/3 in 37.3 overs (Sharmin Akhter 72, Fargana Hoque 61)
