Dawid Malan has revealed that he is taking up a coaching role with Yorkshire as he feels that his England career might be coming to an end. Malan hasn't played for England since their disastrous World Cup campaign last year.

Dawid Malan has revealed that he is trying his hand at coaching with Yorkshire amid fears that his England career may come to an end. Malan was England's highest run-getter in the World Cup 2023 campaign where they failed to retain their crown and crashed out before the semi-final stages of the competition. Malan had scored 404 runs in 9 matches during the tournament.

However, Malan wasn't selected for the West Indies white-ball tour that followed. While the 36-year-old is hopeful of making it to the T20 World Cup 2024, he is also preparing for the worst case scenario by getting ready for a coaching role.

As quoted by the Telegraph, Malan said he is unsure of his England career and is looking at a different path in his life at the moment.

“I have no idea what they are thinking at the moment. We have got appraisals in 12 or 14 days so I’ll probably find out a bit more then. I will just take it as it comes,” Malan said.

“I am not looking too far ahead or wanting something that might not be there. If it is, it is, if it isn’t, it isn’t. I have made peace with that. I have a different path that I am looking at the moment in terms of the last two or three years in my career and if things pop up, they pop up, and if they don’t, they don’t."

“Obviously I know they might want to go in a different direction. That’s absolutely fine. They’re entitled to do whatever they need to do that they think is the best way to move English cricket in the right direction. I still feel I’m good enough and young enough to do it but that’s out of my control, selection-wise," said Malan.
