Why Bangladesh failed again and again in the World Cup; Riyad told the reason

Bangladesh has been part of international cricket for 25 years, but the team has yet to secure a global title. Mahmudullah Riyad recently spoke about the reasons behind this continuous lack of success on the world stage.

In a video message published on the Bangladesh Cricket Board's verified Facebook page on Wednesday morning, Riyad shared his thoughts on the matter. He said:

"There are always opportunities, and we never lack in our efforts. This time, Inshallah, we will achieve something remarkable. I believe a bit of luck is also necessary. We came very close in a few events but, unfortunately, couldn't capitalize on those chances. This time, we have an opportunity in the World Cup. Please support us, we will do everything possible in the World Cup."

Initially, Riyad was uncertain about his place in the ODI World Cup squad held in India, as he had been dropped from the national team earlier. However, securing a spot at the last moment and performing well, he proved that he is still a valuable player. His comeback was driven by hard work and faith in Allah.

Riyad commented, "I have always struggled. I always believe in Allah and entrust everything to Him. I believe Allah is the best planner. Every good and bad time has its lessons."

Nazmul Hossain Shanto, the captain for all three formats of Bangladesh cricket, has faced a rough patch since taking on the role. Although Bangladesh won against Zimbabwe at home, their performance was not satisfactory, and they suffered a disappointing series loss to the USA. Both Shanto's captaincy and personal performance have come under criticism.

Defending Shanto, Mahmudullah Riyad said:

"He is a very good captain with excellent game sense. But we all need to give him time. He has just become the captain, and he needs time. I believe, with his leadership qualities, Inshallah, he will do well for Bangladesh."
