Sohel Islam Appointed as Bangladesh’s Spin Coach for Zimbabwe Test Series
Veteran coach Sohel Islam has been handed the role of spin bowling coach for Bangladesh in the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has opted not to involve their contracted spin consultant, Pakistani legend Mushtaq Ahmed, for this series.
Despite being under contract with the BCB, Mushtaq Ahmed will not be part of the coaching staff for the home series, prompting the board to turn to a local alternative. Sohel Islam, who has prior experience working with the national side, will now take charge of spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, and others for the series.
Sohel previously served as spin bowling consultant during the 2021 home series against the West Indies, stepping in for former coach Daniel Vettori. His familiarity with the team and domestic experience makes him a reliable figure for this role.
The Test series against Zimbabwe is scheduled to begin on April 20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The second Test will be held from April 28 to May 2 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
