National Sports Council's Press Release on the Appointment of Two New BCB Directors
The National Sports Council has validated the appointment of the new President and Directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Following the resignation of former BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon, former Chief Selector Faruque Ahmed has been appointed as the new President.
Earlier, Jalal Yunus resigned from his position as a Director, and Faruque Ahmed was incorporated into the BCB in his place. The National Sports Council also relieved another Director, Ahmed Sajjadul Alam, whose position was filled by cricket coach and analyst Nazmul Abedin Fahim.
The National Sports Council issued a statement regarding the legitimacy of Faruque Ahmed and Nazmul Abedin Fahim’s positions as BCB Directors.
On Friday, through a press release, the National Sports Council clarified the legitimacy of Faruque Ahmed and Nazmul Abedin Fahim’s appointments. The statement said:
"According to Article 9.3.2 of the Bangladesh Cricket Board's constitution, Mr. Nazmul Abedin Fahim has been nominated by the National Sports Council. On the other hand, as per Article 13.2(b)4, the National Sports Council has revised its previous nomination, appointing Mr. Faruque Ahmed and Mr. Nazmul Abedin Fahim in the Director category."
Following the fall of the government, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), like the rest of the country, has undergone significant reforms. Earlier, in an emergency meeting on Wednesday, Nazmul Hassan Papon announced his resignation from the presidency.
The BCB Board meeting started at 11 AM on Wednesday at the Ministry of Sports. The newly elected President, Faruque Ahmed, arrived at the Ministry in the morning to attend the meeting, where he was elected as the new President in the presence of nine Directors.
