High Court Rejects Faruque Ahmed’s Petition, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul’s Appointment Deemed Legal
Aminul Islam Bulbul’s appointment as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been validated by the High Court, following the rejection of a petition filed by former BCB president Faruque Ahmed challenging the legality of Bulbul’s appointment.
The writ petition, filed on Sunday, questioned the legality of National Sports Council (NSC) decisions—specifically the removal of Faruque Ahmed and the subsequent appointment of former national team captain and Bangladesh’s first Test centurion Aminul Islam Bulbul as BCB director and later as president.
However, the High Court bench dismissed the petition without hearing, stating that they found no grounds or relevant substance in the claims. The petition was returned to the applicant.
Following Faruque Ahmed’s release from duty by the NSC, Aminul Islam Bulbul was nominated to fill the vacant director position, and according to BCB's constitution, was later elected president through a vote by board directors. Bulbul has already presided over two BCB meetings since his appointment.
According to BCB sources, NSC initially requested Faruque Ahmed to step down voluntarily. Upon his non-compliance, his nomination was officially revoked, and Bulbul was appointed following due process. His presidency, therefore, stands on legal and constitutional grounds.
