With the change of government in the country, there have been significant shifts in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as well. Many former officials, including the previous president, have resigned, and new faces have taken their places. However, even before six months had passed under the leadership of new president Faruk Ahmed, cracks seemed to be appearing in the new board.
Recently, a conflict between BCB President Faruk Ahmed and BCB Director Nazmul Abedin Fahim has surfaced in the media. This has led to criticism from various quarters about the president and the new board. Some have expressed discontent with Fahim’s decision to speak about internal issues to the media. In this context, former cricketer and coach of Dhaka Capitals, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, has opened up about the issue.
Rumors suggest that Nazmul Abedin Fahim wants to become the chairman of Cricket Operations, and his apparent dissatisfaction with not being given that role has raised questions. Sujon has expressed that if Fahim chooses to resign over this, it would be a matter of ego. He stated,
"Yesterday, I saw a situation between Faruk Bhai and Fahim Bhai. Both are former cricketers. Why would they have an ego problem? They’re here for the development of cricket. When they came in, I saw a lot of commitment from them, especially Fahim Bhai, who spoke about having long-term plans for the sport. But now, I don’t see that. It seems like greed has taken over, with him saying that if he doesn’t get Cricket Operations, he’ll resign. This is pure greed. Why is this greed coming in? Why does he have to take Cricket Operations? Why can’t he serve as the chair of another committee? Why do I have to be the one to get it? Is he the master of Cricket Operations? Before him, Akram Bhai was in charge of Cricket Operations. He can ask for it. Akram Bhai is a former captain and was the Chairman of Operations. So why is he saying he won’t do it unless he gets Cricket Operations? This seems like an ego issue. I think Faruk Bhai and Fahim Bhai have an ego problem. Honestly, I don’t know what’s going on."
Sujon also expressed his disappointment as a cricketer, stating that he feels ashamed when seeing senior figures like Faruk and Fahim acting in this manner. He said,
“When I see their attitude, it feels bad. Both of them are senior people whom we respect a lot—Faruk Bhai and Fahim Bhai—both are respected figures and cricketers. When I see this behavior, as a cricketer, I feel ashamed. Are we cricketers really so greedy?"
Sujon further emphasized that this issue should not have been brought to the media.
"The thing that could have been settled behind closed doors is now out in the open for all of Bangladesh to know. Both of them are cricketers. What will the public think about our cricketers now? It seems that we are going to the board for our own selfish interests. That’s a very natural thought now. It’s a very embarrassing situation for all our cricketers."
Describing the situation as "shameful," Sujon said,
"What these two senior individuals have done is very shameful for all the cricketers in the country—whether they are in the national team or playing abroad. Their ego problems, their fights over who will be president, who will be the head of operations, and who will be the chairman of development—it’s very funny, but also very shameful for us."
Sujon's comments reflect the deep concern within the cricketing community about the ongoing internal conflicts in the BCB, particularly among senior figures.
