Following impressive performances against Sri Lanka, several Bangladeshi players have made significant progress in the latest ICC T20 rankings. Parvez Hossain Emon climbed 12 spots in the batting rankings to reach 85th, while Rishad Hossain surged 12 places in the bowling rankings to become the 17th ranked T20I bowler.
Meanwhile, former England captain Joe Root has reclaimed the No.1 spot in ICC Test batting rankings within just a week. Root scored 104 and 40 runs in the ongoing third Test of the five-match series against India at Lord’s, leading his team to a narrow 22-run victory and giving England a 2–1 lead in the series.
This marks the eighth time Root has claimed the top spot. At 34 years old, he is now the oldest No.1 Test batter since Kumar Sangakkara in 2014.
There have been major reshuffles in the top five of the Test batting rankings as well. Harry Brook has dropped to third, while Kane Williamson has moved up to second. Steve Smith has climbed to fourth, pushing India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal down the list.
For India, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul shined at Lord’s. Jadeja scored 72 and an unbeaten 61, moving up to 34th, while Rahul, with scores of 100 and 39, rose to 35th in the rankings.
England skipper Ben Stokes, who scored 77 runs and took 5 wickets, was named Player of the Match. His rankings improved too — he now sits 42nd in batting and 45th in bowling.
In the Test bowling rankings, Australia is showing dominance, with five bowlers in the top 10. The newest addition is Scott Boland, who claimed a hat-trick and six wickets in the match against West Indies in Kingston, propelling him to a career-best 6th position.
He joins fellow Australians Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, and Josh Hazlewood in the top tier — a dominance not seen since 1958, when six English bowlers were ranked among the top 12.
Despite West Indies being bowled out for just 27 runs in their second innings, there’s positive movement in rankings. Shamar Joseph is now ranked 14th in bowling, with progress also seen for Alzarri Joseph (29th) and Justin Greaves (65th).
