BPL Payment Controversy: BCB President's Statement on Players' Compensation

According to the rules of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), franchises are required to pay 50% of the players' salaries before the tournament begins. However, complaints have surfaced that many teams have failed to follow this rule. To date, players have not received any compensation, and these claims have been confirmed. When asked about the reasons behind this, BCB President Faruk Ahmed stated that it is not possible to provide a simple one-word answer.

Before the BPL started, a national daily reported that players had not received even a single penny of their dues. Following the first match, the captain of Durbar Rajshahi, Enamul Haque Bijoy, also admitted at a press conference that they had not received any money.

On Wednesday, at a media interaction at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, BCB President Faruk Ahmed addressed the issue. He stated, "We have been in contact with each franchise from day one, informing them that the payment must be made. We are doing that. If you think in black and white, why wasn’t this (50% payment before the tournament) done, I can’t answer that in one word. You need to look at the situation over the past four months. That doesn't mean the players won't get their money. We have taken separate steps for that, and we are talking to them. As the president, I am in direct communication with them."

Faruk Ahmed further emphasized, "We are trying to do a lot for them, so that they don’t feel that the board is just observing. They are our partners."
