BCB Issues Official Statement: Towhid Hridoy Suspended for Four Matches
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced the suspension of Towhid Hridoy. In a press release issued on Sunday, BCB confirmed that the Mohammedan Sporting Club captain has been banned for four matches due to disciplinary breaches, as his total demerit points reached eight.
The charges against Hridoy stem from an incident during the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Gazi Group Cricketers, held on April 26 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
On-field umpires Moniruzzaman Tinku and Ali Arman Rajon, third umpire Muhammad Kamruzzaman, and fourth official ATM Ikram filed a complaint against Hridoy for showing dissent at an umpire's decision during the match.
Hridoy initially denied the charge and requested a full hearing to prove his innocence. However, he failed to attend the scheduled hearing with the umpires at the dressing room. As a result, Match Referee Akhtar Ahmad conducted an ex parte hearing under Code of Conduct clause 5.2.6 and imposed disciplinary action.
As punishment, Towhid Hridoy has been fined 10,000 BDT and handed one (1) additional demerit point. It was confirmed that he committed a Level-1 offense for "showing dissent at an umpire's decision during a match." For Level-1 offenses, the penalties range from a minimum of a warning to a maximum of a 40,000 BDT fine and/or the addition of one or two demerit points.
With this latest demerit point, Hridoy’s total demerit points now stand at eight (8), automatically triggering a four-match suspension under the BCB Code of Conduct.
