Amjad steps down as BCB director after removal from media committee
A sudden administrative shake-up has emerged within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), extending up to the director level. Just a day after changes in the leadership of the media committee, director Amjad Hossain stepped down from the board, sparking fresh discussions in the cricketing arena.
After being removed from the position of chairman of the media committee, Amjad Hossain has also resigned from his role as a BCB director. He confirmed the development himself at a press conference on Monday.
Speaking about his resignation, Amjad Hossain cited personal reasons. However, his remarks clearly indicated that his removal from the media committee played a significant role behind the decision.
He told journalists,
“Reasons are personal. As you know, the governing council can reconstitute a standing committee if it wishes. Perhaps the governing council felt that the committee I was responsible for needed restructuring. Since they felt my services were no longer required, I made this decision.”
He also mentioned that no specific reason was communicated to him regarding his removal from the media committee. Clarifying his position on the matter, he said,
“I was not specifically told why this happened. It was a board decision, which I respect. Possibly, the decision was taken after discussions through an online call.”
Earlier this month, the National Sports Council formed an investigation committee over allegations of irregularities in the BCB elections. Commenting in this context, Amjad said the electoral process could have been more transparent in terms of participation.
According to him, “Every election comes with concerns, pros and cons, and controversies. From that perspective, it could have been more transparent in terms of participation. However, I am not someone who makes decisions here.”
Meanwhile, in an official statement, the BCB confirmed the change in leadership of the media committee. The board also highlighted the prior experience of newly appointed chairman Mokhlesur Rahman Kamal.
The statement said,
“Mr. Kamal, who previously served as the vice-chairman of this committee, is replacing Amjad Hossain. Amjad Hossain had been serving in this role since October 2025. Alongside this new responsibility, Mokhlesur Rahman Kamal will continue to serve as the chairman of the BCB’s welfare committee.”
