Jaffna Suffer Heavy Defeat to Galle on Shakibs Off Day

Jaffna Kings suffered a comprehensive 60-run defeat to Galle Gladiators in the Lanka Premier League at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan endured a disappointing outing, failing to make an impact with either bat or ball. After delivering a modest spell with the ball, Shakib was dismissed for a golden duck off the very first delivery he faced.

After winning the toss, Jaffna Kings elected to field first. Batting first, Galle Gladiators rode on explosive knocks from Sahan Arachchige and Chris Lynn to post a formidable total of 193/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Arachchige starred with 63 runs off 36 balls, while Lynn smashed 46 off just 22 deliveries. For Jaffna, Shakib Al Hasan bowled three overs, conceding 27 runs and claiming the wicket of Galle captain Dasun Shanaka for 12.

Chasing a challenging target of 194, Jaffna Kings suffered an early batting collapse. Shakib Al Hasan came to the crease at No. 4 after the quick dismissals of the top order but failed to rescue his side. He was bowled by young spinner Tharindu Ratnayake for a golden duck. Dunith Wellalage fought a lone battle with an unbeaten 56 off 39 balls late in the innings, but his effort only reduced the margin of defeat. Galle’s disciplined bowling attack bundled Jaffna Kings out for 133 in 17.5 overs, sealing a convincing 60-run victory.
