Gill Unbeaten 223 and Rohitt Century Help India Beat West Indies

The cricketing world witnessed an incredible and historic run-fest at the Guwahati Cricket Stadium as India secured a massive eight-wicket victory over the West Indies in the second match of the three-match ODI series. Chasing the Caribbean side’s total of more than 400 runs, India reached the target with 39 balls to spare, powered by captain Shubman Gill’s record-breaking unbeaten 223 and Rohit Sharma’s century. With this victory, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series with one match still to play.

After losing the toss, the West Indies came out to bat and immediately took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners. Opener John Campbell produced a blistering century, scoring 101 runs off 68 balls. Captain Shai Hope then struck 104 off 94 balls, while Amir Jangu of Madhya Pradesh smashed a brilliant 114 off 77 balls, helping the visitors pile up a huge total. The West Indies eventually scored a record 405 for 7 in their 50 overs, their highest-ever team total against India in ODI cricket.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Gurunoor Brar claimed two wickets apiece, conceding 65, 75 and 96 runs respectively.

Chasing a mammoth target of 406, India’s two openers, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, took on the West Indies bowlers from the very beginning. The opening pair added 255 runs in just 26.2 overs. Rohit Sharma eventually returned to the pavilion after scoring 101 off 75 balls.

With Rohit dismissed, captain Shubman Gill continued his onslaught at the other end. He set the record for the fastest double century, reaching the milestone in just 117 balls, and eventually remained unbeaten on 223 off 133 balls, including 26 fours and eight sixes. Virat Kohli, batting at No. 3, contributed 29 off 19 balls, while Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 31 off 37 balls. India eventually reached 406 for 2 in just 43.3 overs to complete a record-breaking chase.
