Ireland all-rounder Simi Singh has announced his retirement from international cricket

Born in Punjab, India, Simi moved to Ireland in 2006 at the age of 19. After a long wait, he made his international debut for Ireland in 2017 at the age of 30.

He represented Ireland in 35 ODIs and 53 T20Is, scoring more than 2,000 runs and taking 83 international wickets during his career. He was particularly effective in ODIs, where he maintained an impressive economy rate of just 3.99. His final international appearance came against Sri Lanka at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Announcing his retirement, Simi Singh said, “I came to Ireland at the age of 19 with the dream of playing international cricket. Looking back, this journey feels like a dream. I am grateful to Ireland and to everyone who supported and believed in me. None of this would have been possible without the love and support of my family. The guidance and contributions of Alan Lewis and coach Graham Ford also played a special role in my career.”

The year 2021 was the best of Simi Singh’s career. He began the year with an unbeaten 54 and a five-wicket haul for 10 runs against the United Arab Emirates. Later, batting at No. 8 against South Africa in Malahide, Ireland, he produced a historic unbeaten century. It was the first-ever ODI century by a batter coming in at No. 8 or lower in the history of the format. His outstanding performances earned him a place in the ICC ODI Team of the Year that year.

In 2024, Simi suffered a serious health condition that caused his liver to fail, and he subsequently underwent a successful liver transplant. After recovering, he established his own coaching academy in Punjab.

Expressing his love for Ireland, he added, “Ireland will always have a special place in my heart. I will remain a proud supporter of Irish cricket for the rest of my life.”
