Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed Sri Lanka’s left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement for injured Brydon Carse. The franchise has brought him in for INR 7.5 million for the remainder of the IPL season.

Although Carse was retained ahead of the 2026 season, he sustained a right-hand injury while batting in the nets before the tournament opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Despite initial hopes of a quick recovery, the English pacer has not been able to return.

Madushanka may have limited international experience, but he has been effective. He has represented Sri Lanka in one Test, 28 ODIs, and 19 T20Is, picking up a total of 70 wickets. The pacer is yet to make his IPL debut. He was part of the Mumbai Indians squad in the 2024 season but missed out due to a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad’s bowling unit has come under pressure due to injuries and lack of form. Captain Pat Cummins is still recovering, while Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat have failed to meet expectations, forcing the team to look for alternatives.

As part of that process, two youngsters—Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain—made their debut against Rajasthan Royals. Both impressed by picking up four wickets each, helping the team secure a convincing 57-run victory.

Currently, Sunrisers Hyderabad sit fourth on the points table with two wins and three losses from five matches.
