Tim David Smashes Fastest T20I Century for Australia to Seal Series Win
Tim David stole the spotlight with a blistering century off just 37 balls, setting the record for the fastest T20I hundred by an Australian and powering his team to a resounding series-clinching win. His explosive knock overshadowed Shai Hope’s brilliant hundred and proved to be the ultimate difference in a high-scoring contest.
In a thrilling encounter at Warner Park, St. Kitts, West Indies posted a formidable total of 214/4 after opting to bat first. But Australia chased it down in just 16.1 overs, with six wickets in hand, thanks to David’s fireworks.
Hope’s Hundred Sets the Stage
West Indies openers Shai Hope and Brandon King gave the hosts a flying start, racking up a 125-run opening stand in just 9.5 overs. King smashed a quickfire 62 off 30 balls, while Hope anchored the innings and later accelerated to score his maiden T20I century, reaching the landmark in 55 balls, including 8 fours and 7 sixes.
Despite the fiery start, West Indies couldn’t maintain momentum in the death overs, managing just 36 runs in the final 4 overs, which proved costly.
Australian Bowlers Pull Things Back
For Australia, Sean Abbott stood out with a spell of 4-0-21-0, including 14 dot balls, which stalled West Indies’ scoring. Nathan Ellis also played a key role, conceding just 6 runs in a crucial 18th over.
David Turns the Game on Its Head
Australia made a brisk start to the chase but lost 4 wickets for 87, putting them under pressure. That’s when Tim David stepped in, and what followed was pure carnage.
He took some time to settle but exploded in the 10th over, hitting four sixes off Gudakesh Motie to shift the momentum. In the very next over, he smashed two sixes and a four off Akeal Hosein, reaching his half-century in just 16 balls—the fastest T20I fifty for Australia.
David kept going, hammering three more sixes off Roston Chase to bring up his 100 in just 37 balls, breaking the previous Australian record of 43 balls held by Josh Inglis.
He was ably supported by young batter Mitchell Wane, who scored 36 off 16 balls*. Together, they stitched a match-winning 128-run stand for the 5th wicket off just 46 balls, sealing victory in emphatic fashion.
