The BPL Final witnessed a dramatic end as Fortune Barishal clinched their second consecutive title in a thrilling fashion. With just 1 run required off 4 balls, a wide delivery from Hossain Talat handed them the victory. The moment the ball was bowled, Barishal players ran onto the field in celebration, and the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium lit up with a laser show. This victory also set the record for the highest run chase in a BPL final.
Chittagong Kings, who batted first after winning the toss, posted a challenging total of 194/3 in their 20 overs. They were off to a fantastic start, with Parvez Hossain Imon playing a brilliant knock of 78. The two openers, Imon and Khaja Nafe, shared a 121-run partnership, setting a new BPL record for the opening stand. However, Chittagong couldn’t capitalize on their strong start, managing only 53 runs in the last 5 overs while losing 2 wickets.
In reply, Tamim Iqbal and Tawhid Hridoy gave Barishal a flying start, making the run chase look easy. Tamim’s aggressive approach, including 9 fours and a six in his 24-ball 50, took the game away from Chittagong early on. But Shariful Islam provided a breakthrough by dismissing Tamim and then trapping David Malan LBW in his next over. Malan was out for just 1 run.
With Barishal at 96/3, Tawhid Hridoy took charge with a brilliant knock. However, he was dismissed for 32 by Naim Islam, leaving Barishal at a tricky point. But Mushfiqur Rahim and Kyle Mayers steadied the ship. Mushfiq contributed with 16 runs off 9 balls before being dismissed by Naim Islam, making it 113/4.
But it was Kyle Mayers who turned the game around for Barishal, playing a series of boundaries that kept the momentum in Barishal’s favor. With the help of Mahmudullah Riyad, who played a steady role, Mayers guided Barishal home to a historic victory.
This win marked another remarkable achievement for Tamim Iqbal's leadership, as Barishal became BPL champions for the second consecutive year.
