The 2025 Asia Cup is expected to be held from September 12 to 28, with India as the designated host, but most matches—particularly those involving Pakistan—are likely to be staged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to media reports, while Sri Lanka and the UAE were both initially considered as co-hosts, geopolitical realities and security concerns have led organizers to prefer the UAE as the primary neutral venue.

Given the ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, it has become clear—based on previous agreements between the two boards—that no India–Pakistan match will be held on Indian soil. High-profile encounters between the arch-rivals are instead expected to be played in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

This approach is not new. A similar hybrid hosting arrangement is planned for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, where Pakistan is the official host but India’s matches are likely to be held in the UAE.

Meanwhile, there had been rumors that India might skip the Asia Cup altogether. However, the BCCI has firmly dismissed those reports. Board secretary Debajit Saikia clarified that India is awaiting its government’s approval for participation.

A senior BCCI official added:

“There is no plan or discussion around boycotting. We play Pakistan in ICC events and will continue to do so—unless the government says otherwise. A final decision on the Asia Cup will come soon.”

Speculation also grew after a promotional poster circulating on social media featured only Indian and Sri Lankan players, raising questions about Pakistan’s participation.

However, the full schedule and confirmed list of participating teams for the 2025 Asia Cup have yet to be finalized. Notably, the two boards’ cooperation in agreeing to be in the same group for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup suggests there may be room for improved cricketing ties.

Ultimately, both the BCCI and PCB appear keen to avoid any boycott that could harm their international standing. As a result, an India–Pakistan showdown at the Asia Cup remains highly likely—even if it is staged at a neutral venue.
