Mohammad Wasim Resigns as UAE ODI Captain; New skipper Rahul Chopra
Mohammad Wasim has stepped down as the captain of the UAE One Day International (ODI) team, with wicketkeeper-batter Rahul Chopra appointed as the new captain. Chopra has played six T20Is and only seven ODIs for the national team so far.
Rahul Chopra will begin his captaincy assignment during the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two tri-series, where the UAE will face hosts Oman and the Netherlands in early November.
Wasim led the UAE in a total of 26 matches between 2023 and 2024. Upon resigning from the ODI captaincy, he expressed his desire to focus on his batting. He extended his best wishes to the new captain, stating, "I have decided to step down to concentrate on my batting in the ODI format. I fully support the new captain."
Under Wasim's leadership, the UAE managed to win only seven out of 26 ODIs, suffering defeats in 19 matches.
