South Africa Beat Bangladesh to Reach Semi-Finals After JP Duminys Explosive Knock

South Africa Champions defeated Bangladesh Champions by a massive 88-run margin, powered by a brilliant unbeaten 89 from JP Duminy. The defeat shattered Bangladesh’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the World Championship of Legends, bringing an end to the campaign of the Mahmudullah Riyad-led side.

On Wednesday, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. They posted a formidable total of 210 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs, with JP Duminy leading the charge. The batter smashed an unbeaten 89 off just 49 balls, including seven fours and five sixes. Opening batters Morne van Wyk and Wayne Parnell also made valuable contributions, scoring 30 off 19 balls and 22 off 13 balls, respectively. Towards the end, Colin Ingram remained unbeaten on 40 off 25 deliveries to help South Africa cross the 200-run mark.

For Bangladesh, Rubel Hossain, Abu Jayed Rahi and Kamrul Islam Rabbi picked up one wicket each.

Chasing a daunting target of 211, Bangladesh needed to secure victory within 11.5 overs to keep their semi-final hopes alive. However, their innings got off to a disastrous start as they suffered an early batting collapse. Zohurul Islam and Rony Talukdar were dismissed with the team score at just four runs. Fazle Mahmud followed shortly afterwards, returning to the pavilion with Bangladesh struggling at nine runs.

Captain Mahmudullah Riyad attempted to steady the innings, scoring 37 off 26 balls. At the other end, Arafat Sunny contributed 31 off 30 deliveries, while Kamrul Islam added 14 runs. However, their efforts proved insufficient to keep Bangladesh in the contest. The innings eventually folded for just 122 in 18.5 overs.

Hardus Viljoen was the standout bowler for South Africa, dismantling Bangladesh’s batting lineup with a devastating spell. He claimed five wickets for just 16 runs, playing a decisive role in his side’s comprehensive victory.

Following the defeat, Bangladesh Champions finished at the bottom of the six-team tournament, confirming their elimination. Mahmudullah’s side concluded their campaign with just one win and four defeats from five matches, collecting only two points.
