Joe Root in England’s Champions Trophy Squad, Stokes Misses Out
England has announced their 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy, becoming the first team to do so after resolving venue-related complications. Joe Root returns to the squad, but Ben Stokes misses out due to injury. Additionally, Test wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith has earned a spot in the Champions Trophy squad.
England's red-ball head coach Brendon McCullum recently took charge of the white-ball team as well, which could explain the inclusion of several Test players in the Champions Trophy lineup. Notable absentees include Sam Curran and Will Jacks, while Jamie Smith is expected to take up wicketkeeping duties.
Jos Buttler will lead the side. The pace attack will feature Mark Wood, Jofra Archer, and Gus Atkinson, alongside Brydon Carse, Saqib Mahmood, and Jamie Overton.
