Opportunity in Test Format: Jaker Ali Reveals His Goals

Jaker Ali Anik has received his first opportunity to represent the national team in the Test format. He has been included as a middle-order batter in place of Shariful Islam for the two-match Test series against India. Following the national team's practice session at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium today, Jaker answered various questions from journalists.

Jaker earned his place in the Test squad as a reward for his consistent performance in first-class cricket. Expressing his feelings about this opportunity, Jaker said, "It's definitely a great feeling. Everyone dreams of playing Test cricket, and I'm obviously happy to get the chance. I've been playing first-class cricket since 2017, and I always try to perform well, regardless of the format. That's the process I follow."

When asked how prepared he is for the challenge if given a spot in the playing XI, Jaker responded, "Since I've been selected for the squad, they must think I'm ready. Now it's my responsibility to deliver my best performance. Of course, we have plans against their (Indian) bowlers, and I'll try to play according to my own strategies. There will definitely be challenges, but if I can score runs through those challenges, I think something great can happen."

Recently, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan in a two-match Test series, and the team is now hopeful of competing strongly against India with the same confidence. Does this indicate a change in the country's Test culture?

Jaker said, "As I mentioned earlier, winning those two matches by dominating is certainly a sign of changing our Test culture. And yes, I'm thrilled to get the opportunity, and I’ll try my best to give it my all."

India is currently far ahead of Bangladesh in Test cricket, leading the ICC Test Championship rankings. When asked about Bangladesh's chances against India, Jaker replied, "Of course, given how well the last series went, that confidence will definitely be there. I think this year, as a team, we will strive to achieve something we haven’t done before."

Regarding his personal goals if he gets to play in the XI, Jaker added, "My goal, as always, is to give my best performance if given the chance and to play according to the team's plans. Initially, I was practicing with the T20 squad, but then the format changed. I’ve prepared for both formats, and now I just need to adjust my mindset according to the format."
