England First to Reach the Semi-Finals
With a 10-wicket victory, England became the first team to reach the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Adil Rashid's spin and Chris Jordan's hat-trick and five-wicket haul restricted the United States to just 115 runs. Chasing the target, Jos Buttler led an onslaught, scoring 83 off just 38 balls, securing a massive 10-wicket win for his team.
The United States collapsed from 115/5 to 115 all out in a span of six balls, marking the third instance in T20 internationals where a team lost five (or more) wickets for the same score. The first such occurrence in a World Cup happened in 2010 at Gros Islet when Australia were all out for 191 from 191/5 against Pakistan.
Chris Jordan became the first English bowler to achieve a hat-trick in international T20s. This was the ninth hat-trick in T20 World Cups and the third in the current edition within the last four days. Jordan's bowling figures of 4/10 were the third-best for England in T20 World Cups. However, the Man of the Match award went to Adil Rashid, who took 2 wickets for 13 runs including 13 dot balls.
Chasing the modest target of 116, captain Jos Buttler stormed through the opposition with aggressive batting. His opening partner, Phil Salt, contributed 25 runs off 21 balls. Buttler reached 60 runs on the scoreboard during the powerplay alone. He remained unbeaten on 83 runs off just 38 balls, hitting seven sixes and fewer fours.
England chased down the target of 116 in just 9.4 overs. The English team clinched a massive 10-wicket victory with 10.2 overs to spare, becoming the first team to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
