India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series after defeating New Zealand by four runs via the DLS method in the rain-affected second ODI at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
Batting first, New Zealand struggled against India’s bowling attack and were bowled out for just 134 in 41 overs. The hosts lost three wickets for 29 runs before Daryl Mitchell (53) and captain Mitchell Santner attempted to steady the innings with fighting contributions. However, their efforts were not enough to take New Zealand to a competitive total. Gurunur Brar was India’s standout bowler, claiming four wickets for 30 runs.
Chasing a target of 135, India also found themselves under early pressure. Shubman Gill (0), Virat Kohli (7) and Rohit Sharma (23) departed in quick succession. Shreyas Iyer contributed 30 runs, while KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 26 to guide India to 113 for 7 in 26 overs.
Play was halted due to rain and could not resume. According to the DLS method, India were four runs ahead of the par score required at that stage of the match and were subsequently declared the winners.
