Tim Southee Penalized by ICC
New Zealand pacer Tim Southee, who took 3 wickets for just 4 runs against Uganda and was awarded the Player of the Match, finds himself in trouble despite his record-setting performance. Southee has been reprimanded for violating the ICC Code of Conduct in a previous match.
On Wednesday, during the match against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad, Tim Southee was officially reprimanded for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.
Southee violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. A demerit point has been added to Southee’s disciplinary record for this first offense within a 24-month period.
The incident occurred during the 18th over of New Zealand’s innings when, after being dismissed, Southee broke a hand sanitizer dispenser on his way back to the dressing room.
Southee admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Emirates ICC Elite Panel Match Referee David Boon, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
For a Level 1 breach, the minimum penalty is an official reprimand, with a maximum possible fine of 50% of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
